Disco is definitely not dead. In fact, the resurgence of nu disco with bands like Tuxedo, Escort, Chromeo, and Miami Horror are only the newest chart-topping tips of a much larger phenomenon of Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers-inspired style of slick synth-funk. But Tuesday nightโs Luxxury (aka Blake Robin) show at the Moroccan Lounge cemented his place in the pantheon of great disco funk masters with his first live LA show in over two years, along with openers Limรณn Limรณn, Inspired & The Sleep, and Alex Siegel. It was large, it was in charge and it was rocksteady. This show was the only scheduled live appearance of Luxxury in Los Angeles, but weโre anxiously awaiting more from this nu disco impresario. Night One of January's Kate Clover residency at Bootleg Theater kicked off on Monday with openers Vaguess, Jordan Jones and Nice who brought their unique flavors of rock to the packed theater. Kate herself is like the lovechild of Chrissie Hynde, Wanda Jackson and The Cramps, bringing her vintage style and rock frenzy to The Bootleg. The Monday shows will feature different featured acts in addition to Kate Clover. Plus, the shows are free, people! Check out her new song โChannel Zeroโ here.

Ok, people, for real though: marching bands need to become a required part of any celebration. Birthday party? Marching band. Wedding? Marching band. Funeral? A marching band dressed in black. When @shiver_me_kimber had her birthday last week, one of her many friends surprised her (and all of us) with a New Orleans Brass Band ( @mjsbrassboppers ) who barhopped with us around Oakland....aaaaand now I'm hooked. ๐ท๐บ๐ฅ
